The Margaret and Luke Pettit Environmental Preserve, Inc., is a 401c (3) corporation dedicated to environmental education and research. The Preserve currently is operated by a staff of two, Educational Coordinator and Executive Director. Direction and oversight comes from a Board of Directors consisting of not less than 16 non-paid members. Members of the founding family of the Preserve serve on this Board.
Huge is the potential the Preserve has to offer in environmental education and research. The 70 plus acres of uncorrupted woodland and 9 acre lake represent an unequaled opportunity in enjoying and studying natural habitat.
The Preserve strives to be financially self sustaining. The operating expenses of the Preserve are satisfied from fees paid by students participating in environmentally educational workshops and field trips. Annually, hundreds, and soon to be thousands, of students receive unique learning experiences under the direction of professionally trained instructors.
Eagle projects of Boy Scouts and university level research projects and studies have been completed on the Preserve property.
The Preserve relies upon corporate and individual sponsors to advance and promote the purpose of its mission. Hundreds of thousands of dollars have been donated by private individuals and corporations resulting in permanent improvements to the grounds. Financial support can be designated to specific projects and improvements upon Board approval. Contact any staff or Board member for additional details.
